The Real Story . . .

Today I visited our local Winn Dixie Grocery store and heard about an incident that occurred yesterday. A woman came in the store yesterday, high on drugs. You may be thinking, "Well? I'm sure people do that all the time!"
The bizarre thing about this woman was that she came in (as we say in the South) buck naked. She was wielding a piece of metal and chased all the customers and employees out of the store. As the story came together it was discovered that she'd set her house on fire, three miles down the road and set her car on fire in the parking lot of Winn Dixie. The fire department had their hands full!
In talking with the cashier, I learned that the woman was high on something and acting very irrational. In relaying the incident to my girls, I thought about what that woman would think when she came out of her drug-induced stupor. I wonder if she will be embarrassed at the thought of clearing out a grocery store, only wearing a smile.
We sometimes find humor in the actions of people who are drunk or high on drugs, but the truth is that the above-mentioned incident is a very sad tragedy. Any drug, whether it is alcohol or methamphetamine, has the potential to destroy and kill not only the addict, but family and community. A majority of the children in the custody of DHR are the results of parents who have been arrested for drugs. We deal with children whose behavior has been greatly affected by the drugs and alcohol that were consumed by the pregnant mom. Relatives are often killed over money for drugs.
Maybe my thinking is unrealistic and simplistic, but JUST SAY NO!! It's not worth the risk to even try things that may lead to destruction. There are too many good things in life to concentrate on than getting drunk and high. The answer may also seem simplistic - GOD is the ANSWER!!!
