Day 8 - June 23, 2007 Last Full Day in Paris

Dominique and Monique, our French Cousins, called and said that they were in Paris and wanted to meet us before they headed back home from their holiday (vacation) to Amsterdam. We were so excited because we'd thought we would not get to see them on this trip.

We took the metro to the bus station and waiting for Dominique and Monique to arrive. You see some interesting sights while waiting in a public place. It's one of my favorite things to do.

We spent about an hour visiting with our cousins. Dominique does not speak any English, but Monique speaks English enough to communicate. We enjoyed our time together so much. They are such sweet people and it would be nice if we could see them more often.

After they left, we went back to the hotel and everyone decided to set out on their own adventures instead of going as a group. Eddie, Laura (my niece) and I took off to find the Basilique du Sacré-Cœur (Sacre Coeur). We mapped out what we thought would be the quickest route by metro and headed off. Little did we know that the quickest route (on paper) took us to the back side of the church which meant a very steep climb!!! Sacre Coeur is located on the highest point in Paris. In the front, there is an elevator that takes you to the top of the hill. We had to go the back way which got our heart rates elevated.

The artwork inside the church is prettier than Notre Dame but the stained glass windows are not has magnificent. They would not let me take photos in the church so we didn't stay around long! Eddie was able to get some "bling" (souvenirs)at a reasonable rate and we saw a different part of the city than we'd seen before.

By the time we finished there, we were exhausted and ready to head back to the Hotel. We had no trouble getting back. Later that afternoon, we headed back over to the Notre Dame district to do some last minute souvenir shopping and to get a few more photos of the cathedral.

Then, it was back to the Hotel to get packed so that we'd be ready for our ride back to the airport the next morning.

It was a wonderful day.
