The Ministry of Mr. Lonnie . . .

Mr. Lonnie is one of the newest members of our church. He's been attending for several years but finally joined a couple weeks ago.

Mr. Lonnie, a veteran of World War II, is quite a fellow. He sits right up front in my Sunday School class and loves to take part in discussions.

I always encourage my students, who range from 35 to 95 in age, to find a ministry. I tell them that they are never to old to find something that can make a difference in this world and in the lives of others.

For Christmas, someone gave Mr. Lonnie a big bucket of beads. It didn't take him long to figure out that he could make braclets with them. Mr. Lonnie has probably made over 1,000 braclets and given them out to ladies and girls. It doesn't matter where he is or whether he knows people or not. He always has a pocket full of braclets and gives them out generously.

Someone asked him why he gives away the braclets and this was his reply, "It makes people smile!" This morning he told me that he had made 50 braclets and given them to hospice. He then told me that he had run out of beads. I've spread the word around church, I'm sure by the middle of the week, he'll have a new supply of beads!!!

What a lesson we can learn from Mr. Lonnie.

By the way, Mr. Lonnie also sang a special for church this morning. He won't let me accompany him because (in his words), "That doggone music is too loud!"

Thank the Lord for friends like Mr. Lonnie.
