My Dog is Depressed . . .

This is Alaska our Siberian Husky and she sure looks depressed! This dog has it good and doesn't appreciate it!
This is the life that our dog, Alaska, has. She lives in a yard that is almost an acre in size. She has a nice, customed built (by my husband) doghouse. Her food bowl is seldom empty. She is taken to the veterinarian on a regular basis and receives medication each month to prevent heart worms. When she wants to come on the back porch during the night, all she has to do is bark one time and someone gets up and lets her in.
Now, you'd think with all those amenities that Alaska would be happy and content. The dog down the street, who stays at the end of a short chain, would give anything to be able to run around in a big back yard. The dog house would be a welcomed shelter for many strays who have to run for cover (whatever they can find) when it rains. Food on demand and FREE! (It must be good!) A girl who loves her very much. (Rachel) Well-trained owners - who could ask for more?
Well . . . Alaska, if given the opportunity, would jump the fence and take off into a world filled with dangers. Being a dog, she lacks reasoning abilities, and doesn't know that she has it good and should be appreciative of what she has. She doesn't understand that it's a dangerous world beyond the fence. Cars and trucks would reduce her to a grease spot. Mean dogs would make her fight not to speak of all the cats! Food is hard to find and clean water is nowhere to be found.
Isn't it amazing how we, humans who are supposed to have reasoning abilities, are sometimes like Alaska. We don't see what we have and appreciate it. We only see what we don't have. We think that life would be so much better if we have what's forbidden or out of our reach.
The sad thing is that we sometimes give up what we have to chase after something that we think will be better and we end up with nothing.
Lasting, true contentment and happiness come from one souce. God is the only one that can satisfy the hole in our hearts. Once we have Him, we can be content and happy in any circumstance.
I love this saying, "The grass is greener on the other side until you get there and realize it is growing over the septic tank!"
