Anticipation of the Storm . . .
Hurricane Dennis is quickly approaching the coast of Florida, Alabama, and Mississippi. Only the Lord knows what direction it will finally chose to take, but people from the coast are not taking any chances.
We drove to Calera, Alabama, last night to attend our District Camp Meeting. Calera is 30 minutes south of Birmingham and is located on I-65. The traffic, heading north on the Interstate was bumper to bumper and moving slowly. I heard today that the state troopers were going to close the south bound lanes and change them into north-bound lanes to help accomodate the traffic. We will stay at home and let them handle that!
It's hurricane season and it happens this time, each year. From the Carolinas to the Gulf of Mexico and Texas, lives have been changed because of Hurricanes. In spite of the fact that these storms have come, are coming, and will continue to come, people choose to live in the most, at-risk areas. Many do not have a choice. Economically, they are unable to leave. It takes money to move and many live from meal to meal. My heart goes out to them. Many, who are able to relocate, choose not to and view living in these areas worth the risk. To them I say, "May the Lord be with you!"Joking aside, my thoughts and prayers go to ALL for safekeeping during these uncertain days.
The Shurbutts of Alabama live far enough north that we won't get the brunt of the storm like the coast will receive. We have had flooding and tornadoes from these storms and that is not a laughing matter. We will just have to sit back and see what is going to happen.
Life is full of storms. Some we can see coming and others broadside us when we least expect them. Storms come to the just as well as the unjust, although many are a result of our own poor choices, I'm sad to say.
The good thing is that no matter where the storm originates or the cause, our Father God is able to give grace to perservere and endure! Praise His Name! Sometimes we feel that we're hanging on by a thread, and we may be, but God can strengthen our grip and reinforce the thread until we're able to stand on a firm foundation.
I was blessed and amazed last night to see Rev. and Mrs. Paul Busbee, singing in the choir at camp. They are a prime example of the grace of God and the strength He gives during the storms of life. Less than 3 months ago, they buried their daughter and son-in-law who had lost their lives in an automobile accident, leaving 2 young children. The Busbees were singing to the top of their voices and lifting their hands in praise to God last night! Wow!!! To go through the valley of the shadow of death and emerge without your children, must be one of the major storms of life. Yet, God is uplifting them with His Mighty Hand and they continue to love and praise Him!!
Didn't Job, of the Old Testament, say, "The Lord giveth, and the Lord taketh away. Blessed be the Name of the Lord!"
Job found the secret and the Busbees have found it also; The way through the storms of life is found in the practice of PRAYER AND PRAISE!!
Have you had any storms lately? If not, hang on! They're probably on the way! Don't be afraid, though! Our God knows the future and all you have to do is keep your hand in His and He will lead and strengthen you for the journey!
Have a wonderful weekend and keep the coast in your prayers!
