Are you Ready??
Be Ready!! Those words mean more to us now than they did last week. Tuesday morning Anna, our daughter, received a phone call that she'd been waiting a long time for but one that came as a complete surprise.Anna, a cadet in Civil Air Patrol (an auxilary of the U.S. Air Force) has been training for Ground Team Search and Rescue. She is certified to search for lost planes and people, and one of the requirements, if you're on a team, is to be READY to deploy at ANY time.
After having spent the weekend at Maxwell Air Force Base in Montgomery, Alabama, she had her backpack dumped in the living room floor and her sleeping bag spread on the kitchen floor.
When the call came, Tuesday morning, Anna flew into full gear and proceeded to get everything in order to leave. Amazingly enough we were ready to go within 15 minutes. She did have to roll up her sleeping back, fold the tent and replenish her food supplies.
As we were "flying" down the highway to the Pell City Airport, I thought about how important being prepared is for the most important call we'll ever receive. The call from God that our time on this earth, has run out and that it's time to stand before the commander of this universe. EVERYONE will get that call. As with the CAP, we don't know exactly when it will be, but we can be assured, IT WILL COME. A major difference between the calls, though is that we may have a little time to get ready when Major Randolph calls, but preparation will have run out when we get the BIG call.
I pray we all are ready!! There won't be any second chances to respond.
Footnote . . . The reason Anna's group was called out was that an airplane had gone down somewhere between Auburn, Alabama, and Tennessee. The CAP Group met at the Airport for further instructions but aerial searches failed to turn up anything and the cadets were sent home Tuesday night. Anna waited by the phone all day Wednesday only to find out that the wreckage and body had been located by some hunters.
She learned a lot of good lessons from the mission. One military lesson that she saw first hand was "Hurry Up . . . and Wait"policy! We are very proud of her and know that the Lord has great plans in store for her life. Now she will prepare and listen for the next call to come!
With the way this world is going, I wouldn't be surprised if all God's children receive a call soon! See you in the air!!!!
