It's the Little Things . . .

It’s the Little Things . . .

I recently, while browsing through greeting cards, came across a “Thank You” card that had these words on the front, “It’s the Little Things You Do!” I’ve been giving that phrase some thought and have come to the conclusion that it IS the Little things that make the Biggest difference, not only in the lives of others, but in our own as well.

Recently we were able to help some friends by just giving them a little of our time. I looked in their freezer (the nosey person I am) and noticed that one of the ice trays were empty and that the others needed emptying. So, I emptied the full trays into the ice container and filled them all. Of the things that we did that day, the ice trays were what was mentioned the most! Was that a big thing? NO! It only took a little effort and time and meant a lot to a lady who was stretched beyond what anyone should be stretched.

Not being able to accomplish BIG things sometimes keeps us from doing the LITTLE things and that is sad. We are constantly being told by the media that it’s the BIG things that count and it’s easy to get discouraged and depressed when we don’t succeed at the BIG things we think we should be doing.

Eddie and I were talking about this the other day and Helen Keller came to mind. Most know who she was and what all she was able to accomplish even though she could not hear, see, or speak. Do you know why she was able to accomplish so much? It was because a lady named Annie Sullivan. In the eyes of this world, Annie was a nobody. She didn’t come from a prestigious family. In fact, she and her brother were raised in an orphanage. She wouldn’t have won a beauty contest and did not become a “mover and shaker” of this world. She did do what she could do and that was to make a difference in the life of a child who was destined to be trapped in a locked body. Because Annie was faithful in the LITTLE things, she was the tool that helped someone else do the BIG things.

We don’t know who we might be helping to do BIG things by our being faithful to do the LITTLE Things!

As the song goes, “Little is MUCH, when GOD is in it!” Keeping doing the LITTLE things! They do Count!
