What is at Stake . . .

Have you ever wondered about the statement "at stake?" Those two words carry some heavy implications.

Paul had fussed at the early church when they started falling for false teachings and going astray. Why? He knew what was at stake if the early church dropped the ball. They were the first church. They were the pilgrims of this journey and if they failed, the whole future on mankind would have been changed for eternity. That was what was "at stake."

The early settlers of this country knew what was at stake if they failed on their journey to establish a new life of religious freedom for the families. I know that modern "thinkers" are trying to re-write history and say that the pilgrims came for economic reasons but that is far from the truth. Their love for God was their motivation and it kept them enduring through almost impossible conditions. Some gave their life in this pursuit of freedom, but much was at stake.

I'm reminded by God of what is at stake in my life if I drop the ball and give up along my journey. The eternal future of my girls is at stake. Not only do my decisions determine the course of my girl's future history but of generations to come. There is a lot at stake. It's not all about me!

I must not become weary in well doing but must keep on course and keep the faith. The key to all of that is keeping my eyes on my Heavenly Father and not people. There is too much at stake!
